Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Truck Driver Appreciation Week is Different This Year

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week has been around for many years, but this year more than ever we need to celebrate our truck drivers and show them how much we value them. It’s time we set aside to celebrate the professional men and women truck drivers who deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time; keep our highways safe; and contribute to our economy.

But with truck drivers’ extreme efforts and resilience over the past year—delivering through thick and thin—it’s time to think about why we’re more grateful than ever for their service.

The milestones we’re celebrating in 2021

What are we celebrating that’s different this year?

Professional truck drivers have played a crucial role in keeping our economy on its feet despite daunting obstacles during the pandemic. Drivers have gone beyond their regular call of duty, taking on the part of essential workers and even sacrificing their health and wellbeing:

  • Over 3.6 million professional truck drivers deliver the nation’s essential goods, from food to fuel to medicine.
  • Professional truckers safely transport over 10 billion tons of goods and products every year–70% of America’s total annual freight.
  • A staggering 80% of U.S. communities depend solely on trucking to deliver goods.

Truck Driver Appreciation Week: How to share your trucker love with the world

Want to give truckers the love they deserve during their week of celebration?

You can start by thinking about how truck drivers delivered food to you and everyone else you know during the height of the pandemic. Remember that every item on store shelves was at some point in the back of a truck. Recognize that your home, workplace, dinner table, and life would look very different without truck drivers.

And the next time you’re cruising down the highway and pass a truck or a truck passes you, give them the famous honking sign. If your passenger can capture the moment on video, even better. Post the video to social media and include the hashtags #honkforhighwayhereos and #thankatrucker.

If you are a carrier and have truck drivers working for you or are an Owner Operator, consider giving your drivers some special attention, such as a free lunch or dinner, gift certificate, or cash bonus. (See our recent blog post on our Driver Appreciation Contest winners for ideas.) And make it a significant recognition so that they will feel extra special. One idea is to them a basket of snacks and treats every day this week. Some businesses, like Insteadofflowers.com, allow you to send a gourmet meal for 2 to the trucker’s home. A personal care kit filled with coffee mug and cookies, water bottle, socks and gloves, first aid products, and more is a much-appreciated surprise for any driver.

Axele wishes to express our appreciation and gratitude for all the hard work truck drivers do to move goods across the country. Their work impacts every part of our lives. Truck drivers are our heroes, and they deserve special recognition during the National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. We want to thank these exceptional men and women who keep America working. Axele thanks you for all your hard work.
