What is Wreaths Across America, and how does it support unity?
Have you heard the inspiring story about the American flag that flew over Ground Zero and the 30,000 stitches 9/11 Flag project?
After 9/11, a 30-foot American flag hung torn and tattered at 90 West Street, across from Ground Zero. The flag was taken down and put into storage for seven years. Then in 2008, the flag began a new journey. Volunteers transported it across all 50 states, restoring it along the way using pieces of retired flags from every state (including a bit of the flag from Abraham Lincoln’s death flag and threads from the original Star-Spangled Banner flag). Dozens of groups across the U.S. celebrated unity with ceremonies commemorating the flag’s progress. Eventually, it returned to New York as a restored symbol of unity.
How can transportation help support national unity during the 2021 holiday season?
Unity remains especially important as we enter the 2021 holiday season. If you want to show the transportation industry’s commitment to unity, consider national Wreaths Across America Day, celebrated on December 18, 2021.
Founded to help the public remember fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve, and teach children freedom’s value, Wreaths Across America coordinates wreathlaying ceremonies at over 2,500 locations across the United States, at sea, and abroad. The organization touches the lives of thousands of school, scout, civic and religious groups across the country through fundraising for wreath sponsorships. These groups help us ensure that Wreaths Across America reaches its goal: to place a wreath on each hero’s grave. In return, they receive fundraising dollars that assist in furthering their own goals and projects.

We at Axele would like to thank everyone in the transportation industry that supports Wreaths Across America. We’ve shown our commitment by donating to fund wreath delivery, as well as the “30,000 stitches 9/11 Flag” effort.
Axele believes in giving back to the transportation community by recognizing and thanking those working hard to move products across America. In particular, Axele wants to thank those truckers who help deliver the wreaths laid at national cemeteries across the country. Donate to the effort at http://donate.wreathsacrossamerica.org.
